Photography Shizzle
Dawn and my mom and a few other people (via emails) have asked me about the recent upsurge in random photos on Flickr.
I’m doing an online photography course right now that is great. It gets the relevant info (technical and artistic) across in a very concise and readable way. But the best part is that you get actual human interaction with the program author. You can post your photos for critique and get personal advice/compliments/constructive criticism. Kind of like doing a college course but without having to find a babysitter to get to the actual college.
I’m learning a whole heck of a lot. I don’t know how much better I’m getting immediately, certainly I have a lot of practicing to do before I start imagining myself to be really good! But I absolutely love knowing the basic concepts and having assignments each week that push my limits. Especially doing a photography course in winter in Chicago – I’m definitely pushing myself on that one! It would have been a lot easier to wait until June, but I think I’m getting more out of it this way in the long run.
It’s also nice because it can be put off or scheduled around or whatever as much as I need. And given that I’m now officially full term (Ack! When did that happen?) who knows when I’m going to have to take a break from building my photography skills to nurse a newborn 23.5 hours per day…
It does help to have the cutest subject ever, though. At least when the cutest subject ever isn’t shrieking in horror at the sight of your camera and running in the other direction…
