Ok, as a politics nerd who hates both political parties (Libertarians disagree strongly with most of the 2 major party platforms which makes it so we don’t really so much have a horse in the race. It’s kind of nice for being able to view things fairly dispassionately, except that both sides are stupid so you get to feeling like nothing is ever going to improve.), I really enjoy Illinois politics. I would enjoy it more if it didn’t result in things like having a 10.5% sales tax, but really living in Illinois makes for a great spectator sport.
For those of you who don’t know the political environment around here, a little introduction:
My mayor is the son of a previous mayor (The Daleys) and is prone to malapropisms and creating grandiose plans that are supposed to get paid for by magical unicorns and fairies but always end up falling back on the taxpayers. (See: Millenium Park, also likely the 2016 Olympics unless we don’t get selected, which, PLEASE GOD AND THE IOC, PLEASE DO NOT SELECT US, I DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THIS CRAP.)
My county board president is the son of a previous county board president (The Strogers) who snuck himself into the position when his father had a stroke right before the Democratic Primary and who is responsible for the aforementioned 10.5% sales tax.
My U.S. Congressman is the son of a previous U.S. Congressman. (The Lipinskis) I’ve never gotten a response from him when I’ve contacted him about bills or causes, though I did shake his hand at the train station once before an election. Also, he kind of looks like Skeletor.
My Senators are 1.) Dick Durbin, who doesn’t listen to anything I complain to him about (no seriously, I have a story about that at some point) and who was the crappy Senator when we still had Obama who at least hired kind, caring staffers who acted like they cared about what you were contacting them about, and 2.) Roland Burris, a self-important, unqualified douchenozzle.
My Governor is completely fucking off his rocker. You may have heard of him.

I’m glad you’re posting more regularly again. I’ve missed rant-y Lakeline.

I, too, have missed rant-y Lakeline. When was the last time you even MENTIONED the Libertarian party?

I’m glad you’re posting more! And I totally agree about the Olympics. If they do come here, do you and Russ and the kids want to go on vacay with Todd and I for two weeks?
